By using the Service, you agree to the collection and use of information in accordance with this policy.

2. Information We Collect
Profile Information (stored only on your Device)
- Nickname: a name you choose during onboarding so Mac (our in-app AI coach) can address you personally. Your nickname stays on your Device. We never send it to our servers and never receive it.
Account Information (collected only if you choose to sign in)
We offer two social sign-in providers:
- Sign in with Apple: Apple authenticates you and shares your full name and email address with us. Apple may substitute a private relay email that forwards to your actual inbox; in that case we never see your real email.
- Sign in with Google: Google authenticates you and shares your full name and email address with us.
Signing in is optional. You can continue to use the Service without signing in by tapping "Maybe Later" on the sign-in screen, in which case no name, email, or social profile data is collected.
Subscription & Payment
- Subscriptions and payments are handled entirely by Apple through the App Store or Google through the Google Play Store. We do not collect, store, or have access to your payment card details or billing information.
- We only receive your current subscription status (active, expired, or free) from Apple or Google so the app knows whether to unlock Pro features.
Health, Nutrition, & Meal Data
- Profile measurements: date of birth, gender, weight, height, target weight, weekly weight goal, activity level, and exercise frequency.
- Logs & entries: meal logs (items, macros, calories, timestamps, quantity, meal category), weight log, hydration log (amount in ml, timestamp), pantry ingredients.
- Preferences: dietary preferences (e.g., vegetarian, vegan, keto), restricted ingredients (e.g., peanuts, shellfish), favorite cuisines, eating style, meal frequency, macro split preference.
- Onboarding inputs: prior tracking experience, nutrition challenges you want to address, and how you heard about Macrite.
- Gamification data: streaks, earned badges, XP, and level progression.
- App preferences: theme, language, hydration settings (cup size, daily goal), and notification schedule.
- Photos & inputs: images you take for meal, menu, pantry, or barcode analysis. Voice or text descriptions you submit for AI to interpret.
[!IMPORTANT] On-Device Storage: All Health, Nutrition, and Meal Data above is stored locally on your Device. We do not maintain a central database of your personal health records. Some of this data is transiently sent to our servers only when you actively use AI-powered features (described in Section 5).The Service cannot function properly without basic nutrition data such as food entries and profile measurements.
Device Information & Usage Data
- Anonymized usage events and feature interactions collected via Firebase Analytics.
- Anonymized user properties: goal type, activity level, exercise frequency, and macro preference. No gender, weight, name, or personally identifiable values.
- Crash reports and performance metrics: device type, OS version, screen load times, and error tracebacks collected via Sentry.
- This diagnostic data is not intended to identify you and is not combined with your Health Data.
3. Device Permissions
We request access to device permissions only when necessary for active features:
| Permission | Purpose |
|---|---|
| Camera | Used for scanning meals, menus, pantries, and barcodes. |
| Photo Library | Used to import saved images of food, menus, or pantry shelves. |
| Microphone & Speech | Used for voice-based logging. Audio is transcribed entirely on-device; no audio recording is transmitted. The resulting transcript may be sent to AI for nutrition analysis. |
| Notifications | Scheduled locally on your Device for meal reminders and trial alerts. |
We do not access or collect data from these permissions in the background.
4. How We Use Your Information
We process your data to:
- Provide, operate, and maintain the Service.
- Analyze food images, text descriptions, and voice transcripts for nutrition information.
- Generate personalized nutrition suggestions, meal recommendations, smart swaps, and weekly recaps.
- Track your progress toward your goals (streaks, badges, history charts).
- Maintain app stability and address technical errors.
- Manage subscription access.
- Communicate with you regarding support requests or material policy changes.
[!IMPORTANT] Your Data, Your Privacy: We do not sell, rent, or trade your Personal Data or Health Data. We do not use your Health Data for advertising, marketing, profiling, or cross-app tracking.
Our legal bases for processing are your explicit consent and the necessity to perform our contract with you (delivering the Service), where applicable under relevant privacy laws.
5. AI-Powered Features & Data Flows
Macrite's Nutrition Intelligence Engine combines proprietary nutrition logic, food databases, ranking algorithms, and backend processing systems to analyze food and generate personalized recommendations. For certain features, the engine may also utilize AI models from leading providers (currently Google Gemini and OpenAI) as one component of a broader processing pipeline.
When AI assistance is required, our backend sends the minimum data reasonably necessary to fulfill the specific request, processes the response through its own validation and enrichment layers, and returns the final result to the Application.
What is sent to AI Providers
- Only the minimal data required for the specific request you triggered, which may include:
- Images you captured (food, menu, or pantry)
- Text you submitted
- Relevant nutrition context (such as your remaining daily macros and dietary preferences) where required to personalize a response
What is never sent to AI Providers
- Your name
- Your email address
- Your account information
- Direct account identifiers
Data Handling by AI Providers
Third-Party AI Providers may temporarily retain request data for safety and abuse monitoring per their own terms:
- Google Gemini API: may retain logs for a limited period for abuse monitoring. Data & Privacy Terms
- OpenAI API: may retain logs for a limited period for abuse monitoring. Data Usage Policies
User content sent to Third-Party AI Providers is not used to train their AI models.
6. Data Sharing with Partners
We do not share your data with data brokers or sell personal information (including under CCPA definitions). Outside the Third-Party AI Providers detailed in Section 5, we only share data with the following partners:
| Partner | Purpose | What They Receive |
|---|---|---|
| Firebase (Google) | Authentication & usage analytics | Auth tokens and anonymized feature interactions. Fully isolated from Google's AI models. |
| RevenueCat | Subscription management | Anonymized identifier used to verify Pro status. No name, email, or Health Data. |
| Sentry | Crash & performance monitoring | Device model, OS version, and diagnostic tracebacks. PII is scrubbed before transmission. |
7. Tracking & Advertising
We are committed to a clean, ad-free experience:
- We do not display third-party advertisements.
- We do not engage in cross-app tracking or profiling.
- We do not share data with data brokers.
- We do not request App Tracking Transparency (ATT) authorization because we do not track users across apps or websites owned by other companies.
8. Data Retention & Deletion
- Health Data: Stored exclusively on your Device for as long as you use the Service. Erased when you delete your account or uninstall the Application.
- Food Photos: Processed transiently on our servers and discarded after analysis. Not permanently stored.
- AI Provider Data: Third-Party AI Providers may temporarily retain anonymized request data for safety and abuse monitoring only. Google retains logs for a limited period; OpenAI retains logs for up to 30 days. See provider links in Section 5 for full details.
- Account Data: Retained for the duration of your Account. Permanently deleted upon account deletion request.
- Diagnostics & Analytics: Anonymized logs may be retained in aggregate form to improve performance. Data is not intended to identify you and is not combined with your Health Data.
9. Data Security
We implement reasonable technical, organizational, and administrative safeguards designed to protect your Personal Data and Health Data from unauthorized access, loss, misuse, alteration, and destruction. These measures include HTTPS/TLS encryption in transit, secure authentication protocols, and access controls on our infrastructure.
While we employ industry-standard safeguards, no method of electronic storage or transmission is 100% secure. We cannot guarantee absolute security.
